# NEWSFLASH # Information for film-makers…
Lots of social action film projects and enquiries related to funding are coming into Tipping Point Film Fund. We really value the interest being shown by film-makers in our organisation and the encouraging support we are getting. However, Tipping Point Film Fund is not currently seeking projects and is not open for new applications or submissions at this time.
We ourselves are very much in ‘fundraising mode’, as we start to build the fund itself. This is why we are not able to undertake a commitment to more projects other than those we are working on at present. When the fund opens for applications we will communicate the application procedure and deadlines via our mailing list.
Please note that Tipping Point Film Fund only supports feature length cinematic documentary films addressing international issues that have a campaign outreach plan.

- - Interested in becoming a major donor?
- If you are considering becoming a major donor to Tipping Point Film Fund please do contact us – by email, phone or post. We would love to talk more to you, share our vision and outline the benefits we would hope to be able to offer you in return for your faith in our work.
- - Why should I donate?
- This is the place where you can back film-makers who are passionate about their subjects and support a fund committed to backing strong, commercially viable films on ground-breaking social issue themes. Whether you are a film-lover, an activist or campaigner, or both, this is the place for you.
‘Crowd Funding’ is an idea that is taking hold as an alternative route for a film-maker seeking to raise funds for his or her film – it’s a way for them to reach out to their friends and networks, often over a long period of time, in the hope of raising enough money to get the film made.
We at Tipping Point Film Fund want to take this idea one step further - to generate a new and sustainable fund – drawn from support from the wider general public - for feature documentary development, production and campaigning and for a number of projects at any one time.
As the links between campaigners and film-makers cross over more and more, we felt there was a need to expand the idea of ‘dedicated giving’ so that as well as the regular charitable causes we also recognise the power of film to address ‘structural’ issues behind so many of the world’s big issues. In other words, to get behind the story we think we know and to shed more light – and additionally, adding value to those campaigning on such issues.
Tipping Point Film Fund is a non-profit co-operative with the desire to create a new kind of public giving – dedicated giving to films for change. A fund that grows year on year with your support.
- - Where does my money go?
- Your money goes directly to film makers. Supporting film development, production, distribution, and campaigning with the film once it’s been made.
Tipping Point Film Fund will have a number of projects it wishes to support at any one time covering a range of subjects. All donations will go into the fund, spreading your contribution across the ‘slate’ of films TPFF is involved with.
For every £1 you donate to TPFF:-
80p will go into a combined production and associated campaigning fund.
10p general fund for those projects in early development.
10p admin/core funds - this will supplement core funding support from partner organisations.

- - Why we are a non-profit co-operative.
- The films we are funding may be provocative and controversial. There are tight laws that govern what charities can say and do – we want to be free to cause a stir so we are set up as a non-profit cooperative.
As a non-profit co-operative we are set up to raise funds via donations both big and small from individuals, trusts and organisations who share our values and ethos. We can then in turn fund social action feature documentaries and support related campaigns.
You can choose to donate with or without becoming a member of TPFF co-operative. Donations are regarded completely separately from the nominal TPFF co-op membership fee of £1.
As a co-operative TPFF is a social enterprise (a non-profit making business), set up to work in the film, creative and third sector with specific interest in global social issues. All shareholders are equal in holding one share only of £1.00, shares are non-redeemable, and no dividend is given. Profits are returned back into the co-operative.
As TPFF projects will inevitably address political issues, it was not appropriate to register for charitable status, making TPFF donations not eligible for tax relief or gift aid.
TPFF is governed by a committee and all TPFF co-op meetings will be held on the news and events page. - - Why does film matter?
- Films have the power to reveal the real story behind an issue. They can put pressure on people with power and mainstream the voices of the oppressed. Films can inspire and engage people to take action.

- Cinema has an unstoppable power to convince…And I suspect, as the years go by, it will become the only medium with which we can influence the world.

- - Can you fund my film?
- Unfortunately due to capacity and funding constraints we are unable to take on any new projects at the present time, if we are to meet the commitments that we have currently have undertaken. Having just launched the fund the work now starts to raise donations from the public, however we are up for meeting film-makers to learn more about what projects are out there at various stages of development or production. We completely understand that there is a limited number of funding sources for documentary film makers which is why we have come together to create a new organisation. The more money we can raise for the fund, the more projects we can help.
