Tipping Point: A Co-operative

Tipping Point Film Fund is the trading name of Tipping Point North South Ltd – a non-profit co-operative registered with the FSA (Financial Services Authority).

Tipping Point Film Fund has been set up to raise funds via donations big and small from individuals, supporting groups, trusts and organisations who share our values and ethos. Tipping Point Film Fund can in turn fund social action feature documentaries and support related campaigns. You can choose to donate with or without becoming a member of the co-operative. Donations are totally separate from our co-op membership fee (£1). As a co-operative we are a social enterprise (a non-profit making business), set up to work in the film, creative and third sector with specific interest in global social issues. All shareholders are equal in holding one share only of £1.00, shares are non-redeemable and no dividend is given. Profits are returned back into the co-operative.

As Tipping Point Film Fund projects will inevitably address political issues, it was not appropriate to register for charitable status, making Tipping Point Film Fund donations not eligible for tax relief or gift aid.

Tipping Point Film Fund is governed by a committee and details of all Tipping Point Film Fund co-op meetings will be available in the news pages.

More about Tipping Point North South Limited (TPNS)

Tipping Point North South’s priority activity is Tipping Point Film Fund. However, Tipping Point North South is constituted so that it may be involved with or initiate various types of projects from film to events to campaigning, here and internationally.

One of the projects TPNS is proud to be associated with as a partner organisation is DRIVE.

DRIVE is a new organisation, based in Accra Ghana, that aims to meet the urgent need for a think-tank devoted to addressing Africa’s production and productivity crisis through ideas-shaping and intervention in the policy process, based on ideas that break decisively from the status quo of the past three decades.

The vision of DRIVE is to be an inspiration for creative and alternative ideas and actions that help African civic, political and business leaders (old and young) to actively address the productivity and employment crisis that is fuelling the continent’s enduring poverty and poor democratic governance.

DRIVE will embrace alternative culture, communications and the moving image. The traditional way in which the intellectual and policy community communicate is through the medium of the written word – as journals, books and commentary – which are increasingly disseminated via the web. Yet, the contribution that, for example, the arts or film-making can contribute may often be more powerful in conveying messages and maximising the potential for communication of ideas.

Tipping Point North South is excited about developing collaborative projects with DRIVE in 2010.
